The CigarSpa electronic humidification system represents a modern and reliable solution for climate control within humidors. In the autumn of 2026, the manufacturer and inventor, Kurt Steinborn, unveiled an update to this well-established system at the InterTabac trade fair. This evolution combines a proven humidification principle with user-friendly operation and practical features to ensure the reliable storage of your cigars.

Humidification is achieved through the principle of membrane evaporation. A generous 230 ml water tank supplies the system; depending on the number of cigars stored and how frequently the humidor is opened, a single tank filling can last for approximately 3 to 6 months.

To ensure optimal performance, the manufacturer explicitly recommends filling the water tank exclusively with fresh distilled water. The use of specialized humidification solutions can impair the function of the membrane. Furthermore, distilled water that has been stored for a very long time is unsuitable, as deposits or a film may form over time, which could negatively affect the device. A funnel is included to facilitate filling, allowing water to be easily added at the designated fill point. If the water level drops too low, the display will alert you with a prominent red message: “Water Low”—a reminder to refill the tank using only fresh, distilled water.

The CigarSpa operates entirely on battery power, requiring neither a wall outlet nor a permanent cable connection. It is powered by four AA batteries. According to the manufacturer, one set of batteries lasts for approximately 3 to 4 years of operation, depending on usage conditions. To replace the batteries, simply unscrew a single Phillips-head screw on the base plate.

The system comes factory-set to a target humidity level of 71%. This value can be adjusted individually to anywhere between 55% and 75%. To view the current readings, simply press the blue button. In addition to the current humidity, the display shows the 3-day average and the current temperature. When not in use, the device switches to an energy-saving standby mode; the display does not remain lit continuously.

To change the target humidity level, press and hold the blue button for about two seconds until the message “Humidity Target Set” appears. You can then increase the value in one-percent increments by repeatedly pressing the button. Once you have reached the desired setting, simply stop pressing the button; the new target value will then be saved.

With its compact dimensions of 17 × 6.5 × 6.5 cm, the CigarSpa fits easily into a humidor without taking up excessive space. For proper operation, the device must always be kept in an upright position. The system also includes a three-year warranty, providing you with added peace of mind for the long-term storage of your cigars.
